Interim Report of the Committee of Experts appointed by the Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka (HRCSL) to investigate the Police Shooting incident that took place in Rambukkana on 19th April 2022
The Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka launched the report titled ‘Empowering women in the Informal Sector: A Human Rights Agenda’ on 08th March 2018. The report is compiled based on round table discussions held by the Commission, including its ten Regional Offices, on International Women’s Day 2017. Over the past two years, HRCSL has focused on the lived realities, both challenges and triumphs, of women working in the informal sector, particularly in non-urban areas, with a view to addressing discrimination and marginalization faced by them.
In late 2005 the Commission appointed a Special Rapporteur along with two others in order to inquire into conflict related violations and advise the HRCSL on action to be taken to protect the rights of those subject to violations; to gather evidence from whichever sources possible in connection with such incidents and monitor compliance by the police and security forces with human rights norms; and guide the Regional Coordinators of the HRCSL in the North and East; submit periodic reports to the Chairperson of the HRCSL.
