Submission of HRCSL to the Review of the Fifth Periodic Report of Sri Lanka to the UN Committee on Economic Social and Cultural Rights — 01 May 2017

The Commission submits its report to the review of the fifth periodic report of Sri Lanka to the UN Committee on Economic Social Cultural Rights. The submission stressed the importance of the indivisibility of rights, and discusses the importance of recognizing the Covenant on Economic Social and Cultural Rights. The submission includes recommendations from the draft Charter of Rights to be included in the future Constitution. Click below to read the report

Submission by HRCSL to the Third Universal Periodic Review of Sri Lanka, March 2017 — 01 Mar 2017

The Commission’s submission to the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) provides an overview of the HRCSL and discusses the current human rights situation in Sri Lanka. The Commission acknowledges the improvements in the protection of human rights while raising concerns about custodial violations, the Prevention of Terrorism Act, and inadequate access to legal aid, and also recommends Constitutional and legislative reforms.

The report of the Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka to the UN Committee Against Torture for the review of the 5th periodic report of Sri Lanka, October 2016 — 01 Oct 2016

The Commission as the National Human Rights institution submits its report for the review of the fifth periodic report of Sri Lanka by the Committee Against Torture in response to the call by treaty bodies. This report is based on complaints received by the Commission, recommendations issued by the Commission, visit reports to places of detention and other state institutions where persons are deprived of liberty, studies undertaken by the Commission and state documents in the public domain, such as court records and judicial decisions.
