The Human Rights Commission Library and Information Service
The Library and Information Service is dedicated to supporting the Commission’s mission by delivering an effective, efficient and accessible information hub that contributes to the promotion and protection of human rights. Through its well-organized resources and user centered services, the Library plays a vital role in facilitating research, education and awareness-raising in the field of human rights.
Our services are designed to support staff, researchers, students and the general public engaged in human rights related activities. The Library provides timely and reliable information to strengthen evidence-based decision-making, policy development, advocacy and learning.
Library Collections
The Library maintains a diverse and specialized collection of over 10,000 subject-related publications, covering a wide range of human rights topics. The following collections are available for reference and lending:
- Reference Collection – Includes dictionaries, directories, treaties, and essential human rights reference materials.
- General Collection – A broad selection of books and publications on legal studies, social sciences, governance, gender, child rights, disability rights, conflict resolution, and related fields.
- HRCSL Collection – Documents, Annual Reports, policy papers, and publications produced by the Human Rights Commission.
- Recommended HRCSL Publications – Curated materials recommended for study, training, and research in human rights practice and policy.
Access and Services
The Library is open for reference and research during the Commission’s working hours from 8.30 a.m. to 4.15 p.m. on weekdays (except public holidays). Users may access:
- Reading and reference services
- Assistance with locating human rights information
- Access to local and international human rights instruments
- Research support and guidance
- Lending services for eligible users
- Updated information on current human rights issues, trends, and developments
