Key note speech by Chief Guest, Justice Shiranee Tilakawardane at the International Women’s Day event organised by the Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka held on 6th March, 2020.

REPORTING CASES OF CYBER EXPLOITATION AND VIOLENCE:

  1. All communications with the perpetrator should be saved and not deleted. This may include messages, call logs, etc.
  2. Take screenshots of all communications as messages can be deleted by the perpetrator after having sent them. These screenshots can also be taken by the police on their computers to certify validity of the screenshots.
  3. When handing over a phone to the Police, create a list of all related material (screenshots, images, etc.) that can be found in the phone. Submit a copy of these materials along with the phone.
  4. Keep a record of everything that has happened. This may include, texts, phone calls etc. You should keep a written note of dates and times and nature of the call or text.
