HRCSL Reaffirms Commitment to the Rights of Older Persons
On the occasion of the International Day of Older Persons 2026, the Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka (HRCSL) reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the dignity, equality, autonomy and human rights of older persons.
The Commission emphasized that older persons, including those who are no longer economically active, remain rights-holders whose dignity must never depend on productivity. It called for stronger healthcare, social protection, residential care regulation, protection from abuse and accessible justice. The Commission also highlighted the particular risks faced by older persons during climate-related disasters and called for age-inclusive disaster preparedness and response.
