HRCSL Calls for Urgent Institutional Reforms and Enhanced Resources for Sri Lanka Police

The Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka (HRCSL) has urged the Government to undertake urgent institutional reforms and strengthen the resource allocation framework of the Sri Lanka Police to ensure more effective law enforcement and stronger adherence to human rights standards.

In an official letter addressed to Hon. Ananda Wijepala, Minister of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs, the HRCSL presented a series of comprehensive recommendations aimed at improving the overall capacity and credibility of the police force.

Invoking its powers under Section 10(d) of the Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka Act, No. 21 of 1996, the Commission stressed the need for strategic reforms to address operational, structural, and administrative challenges within the Police Department.
