HRCSL Calls for Children’s Voices to Be Heard

On Children’s Day 2026, the Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka (HRCSL) calls for greater recognition of children as rights holders and for their voices to be meaningfully heard in decisions affecting their lives.

The Commission emphasizes that children should be provided with safe, inclusive and age-appropriate opportunities to express their views, and that those views should be given due consideration. The HRCSL further stresses that meaningful participation must extend beyond consultation and become part of decision-making in families, schools, communities and public institutions.

The Commission remains committed to strengthening child-friendly mechanisms, human rights education, monitoring and advocacy to ensure that every child can exercise their rights with dignity, equality and without discrimination.
