(English) Chairman’s Message – International Women’s Day 2026
The Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka (HRCSL) joins the international community in commemorating International Women’s Day 2026 and reaffirms its continued commitment to the promotion, protection, and advancement of women’s human rights in Sri Lanka. This important occasion provides an opportunity not only to celebrate the invaluable contributions made by women in all spheres of society, but also to reflect on the persistent inequalities and barriers that continue to impede the full realization of women’s rights.
This year, the Commission observes International Women’s Day under the theme “Women, Climate Change, and Disasters: A Rights-Based Response with Lessons from Cyclone Ditwah.” The theme highlights the urgent need to examine the human rights implications of disasters through a gender-responsive lens and to acknowledge the particular challenges faced by women in disaster contexts.
